When my mother was married off when she was 8 years old, and when she was forced to wear the niqab when she was 12 years old – it was explicitly justified with Islamic text. When women and minorities are subjugated and oppressed in Muslim societies – it is authorized with Islamic text.

If we don’t admit and recognize that Islamic literature is used to oppress human beings, the cycle of oppression and dogma will never end.

The Arab and Muslim mind needs to emancipate itself from Islamic dogma. If anything, for our mothers’ and sisters’ sake.
