• The Financial Times reports that DeepSeek used OpenAI’s proprietary model to train its own open-source competitor.

• OpenAI stated that it has obtained evidence that DeepSeek employed distillation, a technique that typically leverages the outputs of larger models to enhance the performance of smaller ones. This allowed DeepSeek to achieve similar results in certain tasks at a lower cost.
