Must be nice: Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse voted for bills that sent $14.2 million in taxpayer money to Ocean Conservancy—a nonprofit that has paid his wife, Sandra Whitehouse, nearly $2.7 million through her consulting firm, Ocean Wonks LLC.
In 2024 alone, the group scored a $5.2 million NOAA grant and a $1.7 million EPA grant, both backed by Whitehouse’s votes.
Totally coincidental, right?
Watchdog groups call it a conflict of interest and have filed an ethics complaint, but Sen Whitehouse’s team dismissed it as a “dark money” smear campaign.
Funny how a guy who rails against “big money in politics” doesn’t seem to mind when it lands in his own household.
